Is It Really That Time Already??

Birthday party planning I mean.  How in the world are we already coming up on my little munchkin's second birthday?  I mean, wasn't he just one like two seconds ago?

Oy. But here we are, less than two months away from my crazy little dude's next birthday, and I'm kind of stuck.  We didn't do a huge party for his first, but probably had 20 people (family and some close friends).  I'm toying with the idea of doing something even smaller for his second.  He still doesn't really "get" it and I figure we'll save the big blowout parties for the years down the road when he's all excited about them and in to it.

Does that make me a bad mom?  Should I want to go all Pinterest-y, making cake pops and hand made decorations that he won't even notice?  Am I supposed to be jumping at the chance to plan some cool theme party with coordinated desserts and a color scheme?

Because I'm not.  I'd rather have a small family get together. Something simple and special.  I'll make him a cake just like I did last year and we'll spend the day celebrating him, but I don't want to go overboard and waste a bunch of money on stupid details to impress others when he could not care less.  I'll save that type of stuff for next year  ;)

  1. I am thinking about doing the same for Leland's. Maybe just have a couple of people over and their kids. Nothing major. I would like to wait to have big parties until he asks for them.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Why waste the good parties on him now when he can't really appreciate them?

  2. I can't believe it either. Makes me sad :(
Thankfully, we have my work trip that conveniently falls on his birthday again so we'll be celebrating in Barbados on the beach with no expectations of pinterest cake pops. His first birthday party was enough to last the first few years :)

  3. It does NOT make you a bad mom! I feel the same, and am certainly the first to roll my eyes when you hear about celebrities spending thousands on their kids 1 YEAR birthday party. Oy exactly. For us, we don't live next door to family by any means, so it will probably just be grandma and grandpa coming to visit (which is great though), and me making a cake. James will always have (my attempt at) elaborate cakes just because I enjoy that. Can't believe 2 is coming so fast....
