Wiggle Love

We haven't been ones to sit our kid down in front of the tv to keep him occupied. Not that I think a kid watching tv is the end of the world - we just didn't have anything that seemed to interest him.  He really doesn't pay any attention to it when it's on with the news or whatever sport we are watching at the moment.

That all changed once The Wiggles came on.

Andrea had mentioned that he likes the music if they put a Wiggles video on at daycare. (No - they don't use tv to babysit the kids at daycare - they sometimes put on a video with music in the playroom during playtime).  Anyway, this past weekend I set our DVR to record some of them to see what would happen.

This is what happened:

For a good 10 minutes he sat transfixed by the singing and dancing Australians.  It was pretty comical to see him watching it. And when a song started up he "danced" around to the music.

So yeah - I don't plan on using the television to keep my kid entertained for hours on end, but if it gives me 15 minutes to get some dinner started or the dishwasher unloaded (without the munchkin "helping") I'll take it.  If only those songs weren't so annoying...

  1. I'm so jealous right now. I can't find anything that E will watch. I would like to use the TV to you know be able to pee alone and what not.

    1. I almost prefer for him to chase me into the bathroom - at least that way I know he isn't getting in to anything!

  2. We love Diego here. She watches it every day for about 20 minutes while I run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get ALL THE THINGS done while she is transfixed. Then we play play play! I might have to see if she likes the wiggles. Diego is getting old, but she loves the animals on it!

    1. We haven't tried Diego yet (mostly because I haven't found it in the tv listings). The Wiggles are slightly creepy, but if it keeps him occupied long enough for me to get something done I can deal. After 1 episode (15 mins) he is done and it's off to find mommy for some play time :)

  4. When I put Leland down for a nap, I turn on The Backyardigans for the girls I nanny so I know they won't get into trouble. Leland gets so excited about the TV just turning on and they they start their intro he stomps around. I laugh and then take him for his nap. Too bad he doesn't get to watch TV because he loves it. He even carries around the remote and points it to the TV.

  5. G has no interest in the tv...honestly, all we really watch is sports though. I don't even know where to find kid shows! Where are those channels?! LOL

I'm sure we'll find them eventually. I may need their help soon. These mobile babies are a whole new ballgame!

    1. Yeah, Andrew could not care less about the tv when we're watching sports or something not kid related. He didn't even seem to like the Smurfs, but throw on a show with bright characters and annoying songs and he is all about it (for 10 minutes).

I think the Wiggles is on Sprout, but I have no idea what channel it is. We have DirecTV and I did a search for family/kid channels.
